Short-term volunteer help is needed for these events:
American Cancer Society: People needed to help with setting up for the annual Relay For Life event Friday in Austintown and May 16-17 in Boardman.Canfield Fair: Booth sitters needed to help staff exhibits in the fair's medical building. This year's fair is from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Easter Seal Society: Volunteers wanted for health fairs from 1-4 p.m. Thursday at Poland United Methodist Church; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 17 at Mahoning County Career & amp; Technical Center; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 20 at First Presbyterian Church, Hubbard.Ivy Woods Manor: People needed to assist residents during the manor's annual Memorial Day picnic.Jubilee Gardens: People needed to plow gardens during May and June for the annual urban garden project.Junior Achievement: Bowlers wanted for a bowl-a-thon scheduled for Wednesday at Camelot Lanes, Boardman.|LPGA Giant Eagle Classic: Volunteers needed to help with the tournament from June 8-15.St. Anne Ukrainian Church: Volunteers needed to work in the kitchen or in booths for the church festival from 6-8 p.m. May 14-18.Special Olympics: People needed to help with the event scheduled for June 14. Deadline for applications is May 28. Summer Festival of the Arts: Volunteers needed to help with registration, staffing booths and working in the children's art tent for the festival set for July 12-13.Western Reserve Historical Society: People needed to serve as greeters and assist with activities at the society's "Pre-Schooler Days" event May 19-21.YMCA: People needed to help with the organization's Memorial 5 Race on May 24.
Long-term volunteer activities:
Beight Farm: Individuals or groups needed to assist with planting, weeding, picking and other activities at the farm. Produce is donated to the needy.Birthright Tri-County Inc.: Help is needed to sort clothing and supplies.Citizen Corps: The organization is looking for people to help in their community during a disaster. Training provided.Easter Seal Society: Volunteers needed for crafts and light duties at the society's Boardman Adult Care Center. Help also needed to provide clerical work at the agency.Forum Health: People needed to help with children in the respite-care program running weekends from May 30 to Aug. 24.Jubilee Gardens: Volunteers are needed to help with garden maintenance.Potter's Wheel/Warren: Tutors are needed to work with adult women.RSVP: A person is needed to be a lead volunteer for the Citizen Corps Program. People also needed to help with mailings and various community projects.Military Families: Volunteers needed to give assistance to the area's military families.Volunteer Service to Seniors: People needed to make a commitment to serve as caregivers to seniors who want to remain independent in their homes. The caregivers will provide transportation, assist in grocery shopping and make calls to seniors.
