AROUND THE HORN Wednesday's other games
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Yankees 8, Mariners 5
NEW YORK -- Raul Mondesi hit a grand slam off Randy Winn's glove and Andy Pettitte allowed one unearned run in seven innings to lead the New York Yankees. Mariano Rivera, sidelined since spring training because of an injured groin, pitched the ninth in his first appearance. He gave up Mike Cameron's RBI double before finishing manager Joe Torre's 1,600th win. New York backed Pettitte (4-1) with a 5-0 first-inning lead against Jamie Moyer (3-2), then held on to avoid its first three-game losing streak this season.
Red Sox 5, Royals 4
BOSTON -- Kansas City pitchers tied a post-1900 record by becoming the 17th team to hit three batters in one inning, and Boston rallied with three runs in the ninth. Ken Harvey's two-run single gave Kansas City a 4-2 lead in the ninth. Nomar Garciaparra and Shea Hillenbrand were hit in the bottom half by Mike MacDougal (1-2), and Johnny Damon by D.J. Carrasco.
Athletics 4, White Sox 1
CHICAGO -- Mark Mulder (4-1) pitched a four-hitter and Chicago right fielder Magglio Ordonez lost Eric Byrnes' foggy fly ball for a go-ahead triple. The game was delayed twice by fog -- once after the third and again in the top of the fifth -- for a total of 45 minutes. The delays didn't bother Mulder, who struck out six and walked none in his second straight complete game.
Rangers 11, Blue Jays 3
TORONTO -- Juan Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs as Texas beat Toronto for the 10th straight time. Gonzalez hit a two-run homer off Tanyon Sturtze (3-2) in the second inning, and an RBI single in the fourth that made it 8-0. Gonzalez has four homers and 17 RBIs in his last eight games, and nine homers overall. Ryan Drese (2-1) allowed two runs -- one earned -- seven hits and five walks in six innings.
Twins 8, Devil Rays 5
MINNEAPOLIS -- Brad Radke (2-3), who had been winless in four starts since opening day, allowed four runs and seven hits in 52/3 innings in a game that included five ejections and four hit batters. Rocco Baldelli hit his first major league homer and drove in all five runs for Tampa Bay.

MILWAUKEE -- Jeff Liefer and Orlando Cabrera homered to back Livan Hernandez (2-1), who allowed three runs and eight hits in seven innings. Montreal, which overcame Riche Sexson's three-run homer in the first, has won three straight and five of six to finish April with a 17-10 record. Ben Sheets (2-3) gave up eight runs -- six earned -- and 10 hits in six innings. Milwaukee has lost four straight and seven of eight, dropping to 9-18.

Atlanta won for the 13th time in 15 games. Wade Miller (0-3) failed to get a victory in his sixth start of the season, allowing five runs and eight hits in five innings.
Giants 5, Cubs 0
SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds homered twice to give him 621 for his career and Jason Schmidt pitched a three-hitter and struck out 12 in a game he dedicated to his late mother, leading the San Francisco Giants over the Chicago Cubs. It was Bonds' first multihomer game of the season and 62nd of his career, which ties him with Hank Aaron for fourth on the all-time list. The NL West-leading Giants, off to their best start in 30 years, snapped their first three-game losing streak of the season and spoiled Day 2 of the Dusty Baker Reunion. Schmidt (3-0), a 13-game winner last season who hadn't pitched since April 18 at Los Angeles, retired the first nine batters with five strikeouts. His mother, Vicki, died last week from a malignant brain tumor and Schmidt attended the funeral in Washington state.
Dodgers 4, Phillies 0
LOS ANGELES -- Odalis Perez struck out a career-high 11 and Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Philadelphia Phillies. Fred McGriff hit his 481st career homer as the Dodgers won for the fifth time in six games. Perez (1-1) allowed seven hits in 82/3 innings and walked one.
Reds 13, Rockies 11
DENVER -- Jose Guillen homered and drove in four runs as the Cincinnati Reds bounced back from blowing five-run lead to beat the Colorado Rockies in another wild night at Coors Field. The teams went through 10 pitchers, combining for 27 hits and 12 walks in the highest-scoring game at Coors this season. Adam Dunn and Jason LaRue also homered for the Reds.
Diamondbacks 7, Marlins 3
