DAYTON -- Youngstown State shot 981 to win its first-ever Horizon League crown by 10 strokes Tuesday at the Country Club of the North.
Lori Hatcher took medalist honors with 77-80-78--235, which was six strokes better than second place.
YSU's Jennifer Grossi was third at 242, while Gina Abrazzino tied for fifth at 245, Nichole Hamstreet was 13th with 264 and Jennie Fleiner was 16th with 267.
Loyola placed second with 991 and Butler was third with 994.
Men's golf
DAYTON -- Youngstown State placed sixth at the Horizon League championship with a score of 936.
Wright State was first at the Country Club of the North with 874.
YSU's David Johnstone placed 17th with 233. Carmen DiPenti was 19th with 234, while Josh Zarlenga was 27th with 237, Jonah Karzmer was 30th with 243 and Nat Komsa was 32nd with 246.

NILES -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers will have four community days this summer.
The Boardman community day will be June 30, Poland will be July 13, Austintown on Aug. 11 and Canfield will be Aug. 25.

Picard named by AMC
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- For the second consecutive week, Geneva College sophomore pitcher Jen Picard was named the American Mideast Conference pitcher of the week.
Picard won three times at the NCCAA National Tournament.
She allowed three earned runs in 21 innings and extended her personal winning streak to 14 straight.
PAC trophies
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Westminster College men and the Grove City College women captured the 2002-03 Presidents' Athletic Conference All-Sports Trophies.
Westminster won golf to finish with 43 points to edge Grove City with 39 points.
The Grove City women won golf and track to post 47 points, followed by Westminster (44.5).
Niles' Brad McFaddento attend Lake Erie
NILES -- Niles High senior Brad McFadden will continue his soccer career at Lake Erie College in Painesville. A three-year letter-winner, McFadden was an all-Metro Athletic conference and all-district player his junior and senior seasons. He plans to study physical therapy.
DeSalvo selectedby Ohio Conference
TWINSBURG -- Matt DeSalvo, a senior pitcher for the Marietta College baseball team from Union High and New Castle, has been named Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week.
DeSalvo gave up only one earned run in 12 innings last week for a 0.75 earned run average, while posting 18 strikeouts and a 2-0 record.
Fairhaven run
NILES -- The Fairhaven 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run will be held Saturday at the Fairhaven School.
The fun run starts at 10 a.m. and the 5K at 10:30. Registration costs $12 on race day. Awards will be presented to the top three men and women in the 5K race and to age group winners in the 5K.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild were fined $25,000 by the NHL for their part in a brawl at the end of Game 2 of their playoff series against the Vancouver Canucks.
Burnett out
MIAMI -- Florida Marlins right-hander A.J. Burnett won't pitch again this year, and he might miss next season, too.
Burnett underwent reconstructive elbow surgery after renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews found the ulnar collateral ligament in Burnett's throwing arm fully torn. A full recovery is projected to take 12-to-18 months.
