Job placement servicefor laid-off steel workers
STRUTHERS -- A private Cleveland consulting firm has opened a career help center offering free services for laid-off Mahoning Valley steel industry workers. CGI Integration and Consulting Services Inc. will operate its Career Development Transition Center at 17 West Liberty St. in Struthers. Based in Montreal, Canada, CGI also has offices in Cleveland.
Bert Cene, program manager for the Struthers center, said services are funded through the federal Workforce Investment Act and supplement job training services already offered by the Mahoning Columbiana Training Association. The center will offer computer training and help with interviewing, r & eacute;sum & eacute; writing and job placement.
Anyone who has lost a job in the steel industry can stop by the center or call (333) 755-2137 for an appointment.
Tentative agreementat Beeghly Oaks home
BOARDMAN -- Unionized workers at Beeghly Oaks Nursing Home on Market Street canceled plans to set up informational pickets Wednesday when contract talks with owner Forum Health produced a tentative agreement. Service Employees International Union, District 1199, which represents 90 workers at the center, said members will take a ratification vote on the proposal Friday.
