NILES -- Councilman Frank Fuda will meet with city residents who want more information on flood insurance requirements.
The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. May 8 in council chambers in the police-fire-court building, 15 E. State St. Also attending will be David DeChristofaro, a licensed surveyor.
Fuda said residents can get information on group flood insurance and requirements from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
A similar meeting earlier this year resulted in 42 residents' being eliminated from FEMA-required plans, Fuda said.
Fashion, talent show set
NILES -- Our Lady of Mount Carmel pupils will have a fashion and talent show at 5:30 p.m. May 8 in the school gym to celebrate the end of the impending school year.
Eighth-grade pupils will perform the fashion portion of the program, while entertainment acts will be performed by pupils in fifth through seventh grades. Third- and fourth-graders also will give special performances.
Alumna Annie Dull will provide signing during the event.
Tickets are $4 for adults and $1.50 for pupils.
Panels seek residents
McDONALD -- The village is taking applications from residents to serve on the income tax appeals board and on the audit review committee.
Letters of interest should be submitted to the mayor at the municipal building before May 31.
Sentenced in stabbing
WARREN -- A 45-year-old Warren man who pleaded guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to reckless homicide and possession of cocaine has been sentenced to two years in prison by Judge Andrew Logan.
Kevin Jones Sr. of Milton Street could have received up to 10 years in prison for stabbing Johnny Barnes, 42, of Warren during an argument May 25 outside a home on Tod Avenue Southwest.
Model to visit Hickory
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Supermodel Kim Alexis will sign books and discuss how health and fitness positively affected her professional and personal life from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Hickory High School auditorium.
Having been featured on more than 500 magazine covers, she has guest-starred in TV shows and written two books.
Admission is $12 admission with proceeds going to the local chapters of the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross.
Free health screenings will be provided. Dr. Maryann Payne, a Sharon Regional cardiothoracic surgeon, will discuss "Heart Health for Women-Taking Charge."
Mother-daughter contest
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Shenango Valley Mall's annual mother-daughter look-alike contest and women's health exposition will be May 10.
Participants will be judged how much they resemble each other and on having similar hobbies and talents.
Teams must register before May 8 at the mall's customer service station.
Vendors will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. to discuss women's health and wellness.

Animal-cruelty charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested Lydia D. Mayfield, 31, of 625 W. LaClede Ave. on three warrants alleging cruelty to animals after neighbors complained of a bad odor coming from her house.
Police reports say officers had to enter the residence with face masks and compressed air because the odor was so bad. Inside, they found two dogs that appeared to be starving, unidentified remains of several other animals, trash, clothing, feces, fleas, ticks and flies.
Neighbors told police Mayfield visited the house for only a few minutes each day.
She was not there when police arrived but showed up shortly after they left. They returned and arrested her.
Attack, carjacking
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 39-year-old Youngstown man told police his van was stolen at a traffic light early Tuesday.
Police reports say the man was on his way home from work at the Ohio State Penitentiary about 2:30 a.m. when a man jumped in front of his van at a traffic light at Market Street and Hylda Avenue.
When the driver got out to confront the man, the man and two others attacked the driver, the reports say. The driver told police his attackers appeared to be intoxicated and one of them drove off as he was trying to fend off the other two.
