LAWRENCE COUNTY 4-H volunteers gear for auction
VINDICATOR NEW CASTLE BUREAU
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County 4-H volunteers are gathering donated items for the upcoming auction. They hope to gather more.
Youngstown and New Castle playhouse tickets, automotive services certificates and woodcraft items are among the items donated so far, but Bryan Dickinson, extension educator for 4-H and youths, said donations are down significantly compared with donations for the previous two auctions.
The auction will be May 10 at Valle-Maria Manor in the old Parkstown roller-skating rink. Valle-Maria Manor is at Youngstown Road and U.S. Route 224. Cost is $5 per person. Doors open at 4 p.m. with a buffet dinner at 4:30 p.m. The dinner also includes cookies and other dessert items made by 4-H families.
The auction begins at 6 p.m. The fee for the auction includes dinner.
Dickinson said the auctions each of the past two years have generated about $8,000 in profits for 4-H programs such as embryology and rocketry programs in public schools, summer camps and state and national 4-H event trips.
Businesses
Businesses that donate items or services will be recognized at the banquet and in brochures for the auction, Dickinson said. Donors will also receive a certificate of appreciation they can display at their business to show their support of 4-H, he said.
Donors can stop in the extension office in the Lawrence County courthouse to fill out information about their donated product or servic e. Forms can also be faxed, he said. Previous donations have included autographed memorabilia, spring or summer concert tickets, feed and animal supplies, appliances, quilts, antique or new furniture.
