GIRARD | Monday's city council meeting
Council approved legislation to advertise for bids for this year's resurfacing program. Councilman Joseph Christopher, D-at-large, said the repaving will cost about $112,500. Those streets expected to be repaved are: Davis Street, between Illinois and Iowa avenues; Elruth Avenue, between Wilson Avenue and Mosier Road; Shannon Road, between Church Hill Road and city limits; Highland Avenue, between Liberty Street and Church Hill; Ward Avenue, between Kline Street and Broadway Avenue; Stewart Street, between Main Street and Kline Avenue; Washington Avenue, between Smithsonian Street and Park Avenue; Morris Avenue, between State and St. Clair streets; Beaver Street, between Woodlawn Avenue a & micro;nd Shannon; and North Randolph Avenue, between Trumbull and Taylor avenues.
Council received a letter from James Dobson, health commissioner, reporting that five homes on North State Street and all businesses on North and north of Center Street are discharging their septic systems into the storm system or into a stream. Dobson suggested the city extend sanitary sewers to abate the nuisances. Councilman John Moliterno, D-at-large, chairman of the sewer committee, said there are more houses not connected to the sanitary system.
Council commended Howard Jacobs, a fire department captain who retired earlier this year after 28 years of service.
