BOARDMAN Nursing home workers plan to set up pickets

BOARDMAN -- Unionized workers at Beeghly Oaks Nursing Home on Market Street planned to set up informational pickets outside the center at 4 p.m. today to publicize their contract issues with the health-care facility.
The workers, represented by Service Employees International Union, District 1199, have been in talks with the Forum Health-owned nursing home since before their contract expired Feb. 28. Employees are concerned about proposed increases their health care costs and reduced coverage, according to a union press release.
JoAnne McCliment, Forum Health spokeswoman, said talks are continuing and officials believed a settlement might be reached today. She said the informational picketing will not affect operations at the center.
The bargaining unit has about 90 employees, including licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, dietary, housekeeping and laundry workers.
