HUBBARD -- A Hubbard Township convenience store was the target of a smash-and-grab episode early today.
Police said the alarm at Ferrara's Market on Chestnut Ridge Road sounded about 12:45 a.m.
When police arrived, they discovered the door glass smashed in and cigarettes taken.
Public candidates night
NILES -- The Niles Area Council of the regional chamber will have a public candidates night Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the McKinley Memorial Museum.

Local lottery winner
HUBBARD -- John F. Fecych of Hubbard has won a lump sum payment of $69,500 in the April 24 Buckeye 5 lottery drawing.
Fecych bought his winning ticket at Patton IGA Super Center on West Liberty Street, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission.
He claimed his prize Friday.
School Bus Road-E-O set
WARREN -- The northeast region Division A School Bus Road-E-O is from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Western Reserve Junior High School.
Any school bus drivers interested in competing and who did not previously get the information on the event can visit Road-E-O.NetFirms.com.
Entry deadline is Wednesday.
Drivers from Trumbull, Mahoning and Ashtabula counties will compete with the top nine finishers advancing to the state competition May 17.
School board to meet
SOUTHINGTON -- The board of education will conduct special meetings May 5-6 in the superintendent's office.
The May 5 meeting is at 5:30 p.m. to discuss employment, and the May 6 meeting is at 5 p.m. to discuss employment and a grievance.
Health clinic sponsored
LISBON --The Columbiana County Health Department will sponsor a speech and hearing clinic May 6 at the health department offices, 7360 state Route 45.
Anyone up to 21 years old may be referred by a family physician, speech therapist, hearing therapist, school nurse, public health nurse, parent, guardian or grandparent.
The examinations are free.
Otolaryngologists, audiologists and speech therapists will be on hand.

Brick deadline is set
MERCER, Pa. -- The Mercer County Courthouse Memorial and Honor Garden Committee has set a May 7 deadline for ordering engraved bricks to be placed this spring.
Bricks will be placed the week of May 19 in the garden on the north side of the courthouse.
Each brick costs $53 including tax and may have up to three rows of print, 17 characters per line.
Proceeds will be used to maintain the garden.

Suspect in shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police say they have a suspect in a Friday night shooting that claimed a woman's life and wounded her husband.
Dominique S. Lynch, 22, died in St. Elizabeth Medical Center on Friday after she was shot under her right arm.
Her husband, Randy, 23, was shot in the right shin but didn't notice the wound until after he was at the hospital where his wife was taken, said Lt. Robin Lees.
The shootings occurred outside the couple's home at 2325 Trussit Avenue at 8:40 p.m. after the couple argued with a neighbor across the street over juveniles. Randy Lynch told police a gray car pulled up and a male got out and started shooting.
Charged in sale of alcohol
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police have charged Munther Ghazanna, 28, of 546 Fifth St., Struthers, with selling alcohol to a minor.
Police said they filed the charge after they saw him sell a six-pack of beer about 8:39 p.m. Saturday to an informant at Tiny's News & amp; Beverage, 775 N. Garland Ave. Police said they were investigating complaints about such sales.
Drug, trespass charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city housing inspector had banned occupancy at 350 W. Chalmers Ave. so when police saw a light on at 10:53 p.m. Saturday, they investigated and found people inside the house.
Steven Burkley, 53, of West Warren Avenue, was charged with drug abuse -- crack cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, and drug abuse -- marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespass, all misdemeanors.
Elizabeth Gregory, 40, of East Dewey Avenue, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespass.
Patrick Catullo Jr. 49, of Stanton Avenue, was charged with criminal trespass.
