LISBON Judge is picked for assault case against lawyer

LISBON -- A retired judge is assigned to hear a case in which an area defense attorney faces an assault charge based on allegations that he hit a state trooper.
The Ohio Supreme Court assigned retired Judge John Milligan Jr., formerly of the Canton-based Ohio Fifth District Court of Appeals, to hear the case against Atty. Carl Joseph King, 52, of East Liverpool.
King's case was bound over to a Columbiana County grand jury last month after a hearing in Columbiana County Municipal Court before retired Judge Perry Dickinson of Portage County.
King is accused of punching an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper Nov. 1.
Retired judges have been assigned to hear the case because King is well-known in the legal community, court officials have said.
King was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by the state patrol Nov. 1 on state Route 11 in Fairfield Township.
The driver, Kim Triner of Bank Street, East Liverpool, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and was taken to the patrol's Lisbon post, accompanied by King.
King is accused of striking a trooper while he was at the post.
