NILES -- Mayor Ralph Infante and his wife, Judy, are among 2,369 passengers and crew aboard Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Sea cruise ship, which was forced to anchor off the Hawaiian island of Oahu because of threats.
Donald Allen, city safety/service director, confirmed the Infantes are on the ship.
The cruise was interrupted Wednesday after a crew member found two threatening notes in a women's restroom.
The cruise resumed Thursday.
Royal Caribbean said the employees and the FBI established nothing to indicate the threats were credible.
Overly generous
BROOKFIELD -- Police have recovered $1,000 a 9-year-old Warner Road girl was passing out to schoolmates after taking the money from her parents.
Detective Pete Gibb said the Addison Elementary School pupil took the 10 $100 bills and passed them out Wednesday to fellow pupils and a teacher.
Police were made aware of the give-away after a pupil got off her bus and showed her mother the $100 bill she was given.
Patrol Officer Jay Hockey recovered the money and returned it to the parents, who are handling the discipline.
Liberty meeting
LIBERTY -- Township trustees will have a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the township administration building.
Trustees may go into executive session to discuss personnel.
McDonald school board
McDONALD-- The board of education will meet in executive session at 7:15 p.m. Monday in the high school to evaluate interviews conducted last week with 10 applicants for superintendent.
Other personnel issues also will be discussed, treasurer Thomas Radabaugh said.
No action will be taken.
Library open house
NILES -- McKinley Memorial Library plans an open house for the McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center next month.
State Sen. Marc Dann, state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, Mayor Ralph Infante and other dignitaries will take part in the ceremony, set for 3 p.m. May 4.
Visitors will be able to walk through the reconstruction of the birthplace of William McKinley, 25th president of the United States, and visit the research center, which contains a McKinley reference area, gift shop and meeting room.
Also during the ceremony, J.D. Britton from the Ohio Historical Society will present an Ohio Historical Marker to designate the area as the site of McKinley's birthplace.
Board accepts donations
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Board of Education has accepted a donation of a used salad bar cart, valued at $1,500, from Jo McElhaney for the high school cafeteria.
The board also accepted a donation of $52 from the Mineral Ridge Middle School Home & amp; School Association to buy books for the middle school library.
Man turns himself inon endangering charge
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said a city man turned himself in to District Justice James McMahon on a charge of endangering the welfare of children.
Shawn Bucciarelli, 31, of Elm Avenue was released Wednesday on his own recognizance. He is accused of leaving a loaded pistol accessible to several small children April 16.
Police said an 8-year-old boy was playing with the gun when it discharged into the ceiling.
Legislators appointed
COLUMBUS -- Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder appointed two Mahoning Valley legislators to committees. State Rep. John Boccieri of New Middletown, D-61st, was named to the House Aerospace and Defense Advisory Council.
State Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood of Niles, D-65th, was appointed to the Task Force on Family Law and Children.
School project bidding
YOUNGSTOWN -- The board of education authorized Thursday the rebidding of general trades and climate control contracts for construction of the new Harding Elementary School.
Estimates are $4.1 million for trades and $685,000 for heating, venting and air-conditioning.
