COLUMBIANA CO. Teenager pleads guilty in shooting

LISBON -- A 17-year-old East Liverpool boy faces a prison sentence after pleading guilty in an October shooting.
The boy, whose name has not been released by authorities, appeared Monday in Columbiana County Juvenile Court and pleaded guilty to three counts of felonious assault and one count of receiving stolen property, which involves the handgun used in the crime.
The boy previously was designated as a "serious youthful offender," making him eligible to serve part of his sentence in an adult court after turning 18.
He faces a maximum of nearly 28 years in prison on the charges.
As part of the plea entered Monday, the county prosecutor's office is recommending a six-year sentence, Dane Walton, the court's chief probation officer, said today.
A sentencing date has yet to be set by Judge Thomas Baronzzi of juvenile court. The boy is being held in the county's juvenile detention center on a $100,000 bond.
Authorities say he fired a handgun at a car carrying three adults in East Liverpool on Oct. 27.
Alvin Buntin, 44, of 1554 Globe St., East Liverpool, who was in the car, was hit seven times by the gunfire. He has since recovered.
The car's other occupants weren't struck.
Authorities say the boy's actions may have been motivated by his belief that Buntin owed money to a person with whom the boy lived.
