A listing of local events to commemorate Women's History Month.
"Mother Wove the Morning," a drama in which 16 women from 20,000 B.C. to the present speak their lives, will be performed at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Oakland Center for the Arts, at 220 W. Boardman St. in Youngstown. The play, presented by Queen Bee Productions, is free. Call (330) 941-2311 for more information.
"The Vagina Monologues," Eve Ensler's hit which ended its off-Broadway run in January, will be performed by a 20-woman cast made up of mostly YSU theater students and L.J. Tessier, professor of philosophy and religious studies and director of the YSU Women's Center.
Performances will be Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m. in Bliss Hall at the Ford Theater. Call the YSU box office at (330) 941-3105 for ticket information.
Dr. Bonnie Shaker will discuss her new book, "Coloring Locals: Racial Formation in Kate Chopin's Youth Stories," on March 25 at 3 p.m. in YSU's Kilcawley Center, Room 2069.Shaker's book examines the life of writer Kate Chopin and how the late 19th-century politics of gender, class, race and ethnicity influenced her writing.
