LEAVITTSBURG -- The LaBrae School District's outdoor education program will celebrate its 50th year with a May camping session.
The program started with Warren Township schools in 1953 under Martha Cunningham and Donald Haines.
A reunion of those who worked as camp staff members is May 7.

2nd place in robotics
GIRARD -- The Girard FIRST Robotics Team captured second place during weekend regional competition in Cleveland Convocation Center.
The team won the Engineering Excellence Award, the second-highest award given in FIRST Robotics.
The team finished 25th out of 63 teams in preliminary rounds. Warren G. Harding placed 45th and Chaney High School, 57th.
Girard will compete Thursday through Saturday at the Pittsburgh regional in Pittsburgh Petersen Center.
St. Patrick's dance
GIRARD -- A St. Patrick's Day teen dance will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday in First United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St.
Pupils in grades seven to 12 are invited. Admission is $5, which includes pop and potato chips. Pizza will be sold.
Board meeting canceled
NEWTON FALLS -- The school board has canceled its regular meeting Wednesday.
A new meeting date will be determined at a special finance meeting of the board today.
Easter Seals benefit
YOUNGSTOWN -- Proceeds from a raffle of Easter baskets created by Taylor Made Gifts will benefit Easter Seals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
The baskets have a retail value of $125. Tickets are $1 and are available at Arby's in Canfield, Howland, Poland, Struthers, Elm Road and Market Street in Warren, and Mineral Ridge; several Sparkle Markets, including Struthers Frattaroli, Cortland, Champion, New Middletown, and on the West Side in Youngstown; Columbiana Taco Bell; Uptown Pizza on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown; Hubbard Shell Station; and Easter Seals.
Tickets will be on sale from Sunday to April 16. Drawings will be April 16 at each location.
Home & amp; Garden Show
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The annual Spring Home & amp; Garden Show is Thursday through Sunday at Shenango Valley Mall.
The show is free and is open during regular mall hours.
More than 20 vendors will offer information on home decor, landscaping and home improvement.
Burglary at church
CAMPBELL -- Police are investigating a burglary at St. John Church, 159 Reed St., in which the thief apparently gained access by climbing up a wall and kicking in a second-floor window.
Police reports say a variety of tools was discovered missing from the church Friday morning.
Drug-case assignment
YOUNGSTOWN -- Municipal Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly will decide Monday whether to assign Florence McKelvey's case to another municipal judge or call in a visiting judge.
Municipal Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. removed himself from the case Monday, which sent the file to Judge Kobly, the court's administrative judge.
McKelvey, 46, of Oriole Drive, Liberty, is charged with possession of crack, possession of marijuana and permitting drug abuse. A sister-in-law of Mayor George McKelvey, she was arrested Jan. 22 in Youngstown.
Robbed at gunpoint
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 35-year-old Austintown man was waved down on Waverly Street by two robbers and held up at gunpoint Monday afternoon, reports show.
The Crabwood Court victim told police one suspect approached the driver's side window and pointed a gun while the other reached in the passenger side and took $150.
Dog attacks child
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 9-year-old girl walking home from a mailbox on Idora Avenue was bitten on her calves Monday evening by a medium-size tan dog, police said.
Her screams alerted a neighbor, who chased the dog.
The girl received three to four stitches and treatment for scratches at a local hospital.
