ORLANDO, Fla. -- Youngstown State freshman Kelly Murphy tossed five scoreless innings in her debut Monday, leading Youngstown State past St. Joseph's (Pa.) 7-0 in the Rebel Games.
The Penguins (1-1) lost to Butler 9-8 later Monday.
Zetta Dumkrieger went 3-for-4 against St. Joseph's, while junior Lacey Reichert was 2-for-3. Senior Steph Hartman pitched two shutout innings in relief.
Against Butler, freshman Tiffany Patteson and sophomore Erin Moore each had two hits.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- After winning the first game of the series, Youngstown State suffered 8-5 and 16-7 defeats to Ohio Sunday in the completion of a three-game series.
In the first game, YSU allowed a 5-3 lead get away as the Bobcats scored the final five runs of the contest. In the 16-7 defeat, Youngstown State trimmed a 9-0 deficit to 10-7 in the bottom of the eighth before the Bobcats (4-5) erupted for six runs.
The Penguins (1-4) were to begin a three-game series at Morehead State today.
Football recruit
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State added a 20th member to its 2003 signing class, safety/linebacker Bob Perez of Massillon Perry High.
The 6-foot, 210-pound Perez played quarterback and on defense for Perry last season, leading the team to a 10-2 mark and appearance in the regional semifinals. He was an honorable-mention all-district and All-Federal League pick.

DAYTON -- Wright State handed the Youngstown State men's team a 7-0 setback and also blanked the YSU women 7-0 in the Horizon League.

Gaudiose namedto all-star game
POLAND -- Poland High senior Kristy Gaudiose has been selected to play in the North-South All-Star Classic on April 13 at Capital University.
A 5-foot-6 guard, Gaudiose highlighted her season by becoming one of four Poland players to score more than 1,000 points in her career.
A YSU recruit, Gaudiose was named the NEO Inland District co-player of the year in Div. II and was first team All-Ohio. She earned district and Metro Conference honors for the past three years and All-Ohio recognition the past two.
She holds Poland's single-game records for most points (36) and foul shots (14-of-15).
Gaudiose holds a 3.8 grade-point average and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Marty and Patti Gaudiose of Poland.
Mann, Whitbeckin championships
Westminster College senior Jim Mann (Kiski School) has been selected to compete at the NCAA Division III Swimming & amp; Diving National Championships, March 20-22 at Emory Univ. in Atlanta.
Mann will compete in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, and either the 50 freestyle or 200 individual medley. He is the lone men's swimmer from the Presidents' Athletic Conference to be selected to compete at the national championships.
Earlier this season, Mann was named PAC Most Valuable Swimmer after capturing the 100 and 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly at the conference meet.
Grove City College junior Peggy Whitbeck will defend her national championship in the 200 butterfly at the meet.
She earned the top seed with a national-record 2:01.84 in the PAC meet.
She swam a national record 2:03.03 to win the event a year ago.
Martin namedto MAC team
AKRON -- University of Akron senior center Cassandra Martin, a graduate of Struthers High, was named to the All-Mid-American Conference women's basketball all-star team.
Martin, who made the honorable mention squad, ranked 13th in the MAC with 13.4 points a game and seventh with 7.7 rebounds.

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College named Dr. Don Lyle as the new athletic director.
Lyle, who is also the men's soccer coach, will oversee the college's 20 athletic teams.

Race dropped
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Grand Prix of Road America was dropped from the 2003 Champ Car schedule because CART said it did not comply with the sanctioning agreement.
CART has raced on the 4.048-mile Road America road course in Wisconsin each year since 1982.
WORLD
Golfer seeksamateur status
LONDON -- Former British Open champion Vivien Saunders wants her amateur status back, and she's ready to take on the "old boys in blazers" who set the rules at one of golf's most venerable clubs.
Saunders, founder of the first European women's tour, plans to take the Royal & amp; Ancient golf club to court. The 57-year-old lawyer said she intends to take her case to the Court of Sessions, the highest court in Scotland, under Britain's Human Rights Act.
