MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustee James Stoddard announced this year's "Plant Pride Not Litter" campaign will be April 12.
The litter pickup will be from 9 a.m. to noon, and Stoddard noted that volunteers are needed. Rain date is April 19. Last year's litter pickup program netted a dump-truck load of trash. Trash bags and gifts of appreciation will be given to volunteers. The gifts and bags are provided by the Trumbull-Geauga Solid Waste Management District.
In other business at Tuesday's trustees meeting, township Administrator David Pugh asked that residents remove decorations on graves in township cemeteries by April 1. Pugh said any decorations left after that date will be thrown away. Included in the township cleanup are: Kerr, Ohltown, Welsh Hill and County Line cemeteries.
Trustees will have a caucus at 2 p.m. April 1, preceded by a public hearing on zoning matters at 1. To be considered at the zoning hearing is amending township zoning law to allow churches and places of worship in any zoning classification, and adding permitted uses for Commercial A districts to include self-storage units.
Also to be considered is a zone change from Agricultural to Residential-D on 22.3 acres next to and behind Westwood Lake Mobile Home Park at West Park Avenue and Austintown-Warren Road. Westwood Communities Inc., owner of the property and the park, made the zone change request, which was approved by the township zoning commission in February, as were the zoning amendments.
Trustees also announced that unwanted appliances, except televisions and microwave ovens, can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to noon April 12 at the Trumbull County engineer's yard, 899 Everett Hull Road. Freon removal is free. No commercial businesses can take part.
