Pirates held to six hits in 1-0 loss
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -- Johnny Damon homered while Steve Woodard and four relievers allowed six hits as a split squad of the Boston Red Sox beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0 Monday.
Damon's homer in the fifth inning, his second of the spring, was one of three hits off loser Rolando Arrojo, a former Boston teammate; Arrojo pitched 22/3 innings of relief.
Pirates starter Saloman Torres allowed three hits in four scoreless innings.
Woodard, trying to win a long relief job, held Pittsburgh to one hit over three innings. Brandon Lyon, Tom Davey, Matt White and Kris Foster completed the shutout.
Lyon got the win by allowing two hits in two innings. Foster worked a perfect ninth inning for his first save.
Lou Collier had three hits for the Red Sox and Trot Nixon had two hits. Jack Wilson went 3-for-3 for the Pirates.
