WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) -- Karim Garcia, A.J. Hinch and Omar Vizquel homered in a seven-run fourth inning, leading the Cleveland Indians past the New York Yankees 11-1 on Monday.
Shane Spencer, facing his former team for the first time since signing with Cleveland, homered and doubled off David Wells.
"He told me after the double, 'That's all you get this year,' " Spencer said. "Then he said to give him a call. He's always been great to me."
Belted both ways
Wells allowed six hits and one run over four innings, striking out four. He also was fined $100,000 Monday for an autobiography filled with revelations of drinking, drug use and disparaging talk that the Yankees felt tarnished their image.
"I'm glad it's over," Wells said. "I've got to move on and go out there and pitch."
Cleveland rookie Jason Davis continued his perfect spring with four shutout innings of relief. The 6-foot-6 right-hander has yet to allow a run in nine innings over three outings.
"Jason has really stepped up," Indians manager Eric Wedge said. "He, Ricardo Rodriguez and Jake Westbrook are in the running for a rotation spot. I wouldn't say Jason has one, but he is closing in."
Yankees starter Sterling Hitchcock gave up five runs in three-plus innings.
Chris Hammond then came on, yielding four hits and four earned runs without retiring any of the five men he faced. He gave up a three-run homer to Hinch and two-run shot to Vizquel.
"I don't want too many days like this again," Hammond said. "I felt strong, but had nothing in my arm. No pain, just like a numbness. I could not put the ball where I wanted. I was terrible and feel terrible for my team."
Other offense
Ben Broussard tripled home one run and Brandon Phillips added a bad-hop two-run single past shortstop Derek Jeter in a three-run second off Hitchcock. Phillips went 3-for-4 and is batting .375.
First baseman Jason Giambi returned to the New York lineup after missing five games with an abdominal strain and went 1-for-2 with a walk.
New York scored on a sacrifice fly by Raul Mondesi in the fourth off Indians starter Jason Bere (2-0), who allowed three hits and struck out four in four innings.
