Baseball team loses
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri's Andy Shipman allowed just four hits in a complete-game 9-0 shutout, and three Tiger pitchers combined to surrender two runs on three hits in a 10-2 victory against Youngstown State.
Justin Banks had a triple in the Penguins' season-opener while Hubbard native Kevin Libeg surrendered two hits and one earned run in relief in his collegiate debut.
YSU plays another doubleheader today.

Davis, Majzunfirst teamers
A.H. Davis of Thiel and Mike Majzun of Bethany were named to the President's Athletic Conference men's basketball first team Saturday.
Davis, a senior, is from Boardman, and Majzun, a senior, is from Struthers.
Also named to the first team were player of the year Nate Maurer of Grove City, Nolan Larry of Washington & amp; Jefferson and Ray Robinson of Waynesburg.
Named to the second team were Greg Foster (Ursuline) and Chris Hatch (South Range) of Westminster, Shane Manley (East Palestine) of Thiel, Phil Bushre and Tanner Prosser of Grove City, Aaron Ankrom of Waynesburg and Derek Hoffman of Bethany.
Honorable mention selections included Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield) of Grove City, Mike Banach of Thiel, Matt Drahos of Bethany and Pat O'Connor of Westminster.
Drahos was named freshman of the year and Mike Snell of Thiel was coach of the year.
Sulkowskiplayer of year
Washington & amp; Jefferson's Leigh Sulkowski was named President's Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the year Saturday.
She was joined on the first team by Abby Moose (Mercer) of Grove City, Kelly Richardson of Bethany, Amanda Swanson of Thiel and Shawndra McDonald of W & amp;J.
The second team consisted of Katie Hardie (Cardinal Mooney) of Bethany, Ashley Kenney and Erica Tallo of Westminster, Leigh LeGare of Grove City and Candice Eyerman of Waynesburg.
Kiki Cohen (Liberty) and Nikki Babik of Bethany were named honorable mention, along with Christy Faller of Grove City, Danielle Mezzullo and Stacy Shook of Thiel and Jennifer Petures of Westminster.
Curbstone Coaches
BOARDMAN -- Football officials Tom Krispinsky and Jim Visingardi will be the guest speakers Monday for the Curbstone Coaches' noon luncheon session at the Lockwood House.
Golf expo
GIRARD -- The Creekside Dome will hold its golf expo on March 8 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and admission is free.
There will be exhibitions by Hogan, Spalding and Etonic golf representatives.
There will also be a simulator long drive contest with four divisions. They include Open (19-over), Senior (55-over), Women's (19-over) and Youth (12-over).
Bova is mat champ
KAILUA, HAWAII -- Christopher Bova, 15, whose parents graduated from Lowellville High, became the Oahu Interscholastic Association junior varsity 135-pound wrestling champion.
In the title match, Bova pinned an undefeated wrestler who had won all his matches by pin this season.
Indoor track
COLUMBUS -- Boardman High senior Allison Brager tied a state record in the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches) Saturday at the Ohio Elite Indoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio State University.
Austintown Fitch competed in the Ohio Track Coaches Classic in Columbus. They were led by Davanzo Tate in the 55-meter dash (sixth place, 6.73 seconds); Justin Setty in the 3200 (fourth, 10:43.3); Kevin Steele in the shot put (fifth, 48-10); Miles Williams in the long jump (15th, 19-8); and Dave Medicus in the pole vault (ninth, 12-0). For the girls, Sarah Tate was ninth in the 55 meters (7.90) and Jessica Smith ninth in the 800 (2:34.5).
Bowling league
YOUNGSTOWN -- Plans are being finalized to initiate the first local scholarship traveling league for high school students in the Mahoning Valley.
A 10-week long league will enable high school students to compete for scholarship money at a different bowling center every session.
A maximum of 50 girls are eligible to compete on Mondays and 50 boys on Wednesdays. The league starts March 10, after the Ohio high school state tournament has concluded. Matches begin at 3:30.
The first traveling league session is at Amron Lanes in Canfield for girls on March 10 and boys on March 12.
The weekly fee is $10 and the payout per position will be determined by the number of participants. Students should call Dana Bachinger at 792-5177 by March 8.
Soccer team
STRUTHERS -- A new premier youth travel soccer club is forming and will have tryouts Wednesday and Thursday at its home facility, Tri-County Soccer Complex.
Girls under age 10 through 16 will tryout Wednesday and boys the same age range and all players under age eight will try out Thursday. Call (330) 755-1661 for details.
Bowling entries
YOUNGSTOWN -- Entries for the fourth annual Youngstown Senior Doubles Handicap Tournament for bowlers 55 and older are available at centers and the Youngstown Bowling Association office. The event is March 15 at Amron Lanes and March 16 at Boardman Lanes. Entries close March 13 at 9 p.m.
Boxing winners
CLEVELAND -- Josh Harris and Anthony Petro Antonio, amateur boxers from Youngstown representing Buckeye Elks, each recorded victories Friday night.
Harris (9-2) knocked out Mansfield's Andrew Connor in the first round, while Antonio decisioned Joe Ameon (13-4) of Cleveland in the fourth round.
The boxers are trained by Frank West.

Ring found
IRONTON -- A former Ohio State defensive back and his 1977 Orange Bowl ring have been reunited.
Max Midlam lost the ring while at The Laidback tavern along the banks of the Ohio River last May.
Last summer, tavern co-owner Pat Boggs found the ring with the initials "MM" and the number "21."
Finally, the two reached Midlam on Feb. 17 and gave him the ring this week.

Alinghi wins, 5-0
AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- Landlocked Switzerland became the first European country to win the 152-year-old America's Cup on Sunday, a historic victory by a crew loaded with New Zealanders who had been branded as traitors.
Skipper Russell Coutts took the cup from the country he brought it to in 1995, steering the whimsically named sloop Alinghi to a five-race sweep against hard-luck Team New Zealand, the two-time defending champion.
