Ex-Gov. Mario Cuomo will speak at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mario Cuomo, former three-term governor of New York, will speak at 7:30 p.m. April 2 at Youngstown State University as part of the Skeggs Lecture series. The lecture, in the Chestnut Room of YSU's Kilcawley Center, is free.
Cuomo is the longest-serving Democratic governor of New York in modern history.
Elected in 1982, he was re-elected in 1986 and 1990.
In 1995, he returned to the practice of law.
The lecture series was formed in 1966 in memory of Leonard T. Skeggs Sr., who was general secretary of the YMCA in Youngstown.
Skeggs, who died in 1933, believed that Youngstown should have its own college, raised funds for the school and prompted Dr. Howard W. Jones to become its first president.
