Man accused of dragging cop was on probation

GIRARD -- A Mineral Ridge man accused of dragging a Warren police officer during a weekend traffic stop faces a probation violation.
David Molina, 30, of Woodledge Drive, is free on a $750 bond posted in Girard Municipal Court
Molina was placed on probation May 24, 2000, for driving without a license.
The probation violation alleges he failed to pay $573 in fines and costs, didn't provide the probation department with a correct address and telephone number and didn't respond to a letter directing him to report to the probation department.
Molina, who was released from the Trumbull County Jail after posting bond, asked Magistrate Mark Finamore that a court-appointed lawyer be provided. No decision was made on the appointment.
Molina was charged Monday in Warren Municipal Court with felonious assault on a police officer and failure to comply with an officer's orders. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Monday.
Warren police said Sgt. Robert Massucci stopped a car Molina was driving for speeding Saturday morning on Belvedere Avenue.
Police allege that when Molina drove off, Massucci grabbed on to him, became entangled in the car and was dragged about three blocks.
Massucci was released Monday from St. Joseph Health Center. He suffered a broken leg.
