Niles couple are bound over to grand jury

NILES -- A married couple accused in a months-long string of burglaries were bound over to the Trumbull County grand jury, and a charge against a man police say was their accomplice was dropped.
When a key witness failed to appear for the preliminary hearing of David Jamal Mack, 28, of Willard Avenue S.E., Warren, a single felony count of receiving stolen property was dismissed.
Mack, formerly of Royal Mall Drive, Niles, was accused of working with Jay A. and Heather Renee Franklin, also of Royal Mall Drive, to burglarize several residences and businesses throughout the city in the early months of this year.
Jay Franklin, 31, is charged with receiving stolen property, breaking and entering and aggravated burglary. His 30-year-old wife faces one count of receiving stolen property.
Court records say the charge against Mack was dismissed when Marcia Morgan, 43, did not show up for a May 30 hearing.
Morgan previously lived on Royal Mall Drive, but authorities think she moved, possibly out of Niles.
Before the scheduled hearing, Morgan filed several reports with police, saying she was threatened and assaulted by neighbors who thought she was working with police in their investigation.
