SHARPSVILLE -- A firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion while battling a blaze Friday at 120 Fourth St. The only person at the home when the fire started was a 17-year-old boy, and he was not injured. Fire Chief Andrew Totin said the fire was ignited when the boy tripped while carrying a gas can to the garage at about 5 p.m. The can fell into the basement and gas splashed the water heater, starting the blaze. The fire was contained in the basement, and firefighters worked about two hours to get it extinguished. Totin estimated that the fire caused $30,000 in damage, and noted that the family had insurance. He said the Red Cross was helping the family recover from the fire Friday night.
