Bicentennial garden party to be a blue-ribbon event

Fund-raising festivities will feature a patriotic theme.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens have planned a Blue Ribbon Bash -- a Bicentennial Garden Party as a fund-raiser that will also serve as a celebration of Ohio's 200th anniversary.
The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. July 25 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Fellows Riverside Gardens.
Red, white and blue decorations will be used throughout the gardens to establish a patriotic theme for the occasion. The majority of the activities will be held outdoors, although the D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center will be open to guests, and tables and tents will also be set up throughout the gardens for their convenience.
On the agenda
The evening will include cocktails and hors d'oeuvres to be served in the area overlooking Lake Glacier, where a buffet dinner will be served. The buffet will feature special heritage foods created from recipes found in cookbooks published by Angels of Easter Seals and the Junior League of Youngstown and from prize-winning recipes from the Canfield Fair.
Displayed will be such mementos from the past as photographs of former visitors and an exhibit of enlarged antique postcards. One of the highlights of the evening will be an appearance of "Volney Rogers."
Entertainment will be provided by the Youngstown Connection followed by dancing near the gazebo to the music of Ray Ryan's New Orleans Riverside Band.
Tickets for the festivities are $60 ($10 tax deductible) for standard, and $90 ($40 tax deductible) for patrons. Proceeds will benefit the gardens and the endowment fund. For additional ticket information or an invitation to attend the party, call the gardens at (330) 740-7116.
