YOUNGSTOWN -- Three teams from the Big East, a member of the Mountain West Conference, four in-season tournaments, 17 straight road matches to open the season, and the Horizon League rivals highlight the 2003 volleyball schedule.
The Penguins will play at the Western New York Tournament from Aug. 29-31, at the New Mexico Lobo Invitational on Sept. 5-6 and at the Binghamton (NY) Tournament on Sept. 12-13.
West Virginia plays at Beeghly Center on Oct. 18.
Men's basketball
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State men's basketball coach John Robic has added Bill Pope and Winston Smith as assistant coaches.
Pope spent the past six seasons as the coach at NCAA Division II Lincoln (Mo.) University, while Smith was an assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson the past two seasons.
Robic has ties to both new men. Smith played at UMass during Robic's final three seasons as an assistant with the program while Pope was a manager on Kansas' 1988 national championship team when Robic was a graduate assistant.

Phantom Rocketshire new coach
BOARDMAN -- Robert Mainhardt, who has coaching experience with the Kent State ice hockey team, has been hired to coach the Phantom Rockets Junior A team.
This fall, the Rockets will be members of the North American Hockey League.
Mainhardt, of Euclid, has been a coach for the Cleveland Barons Junior A team and was coach for the Chicago Showcase while involved with Team Ohio Hockey.
In 1993, Mainhardt coached the USHL Dubuque Fighting Saints Junior A team to a national title.

Scott Jones Jr. winsjunior tournament
MADISON -- Scott Jones Jr. of East Palestine recently won a Kenny Novak Junior Series golf tournament at Erie Shores Golf Course.
Jones shot a 3-under par 67 to win by three strokes. In the fall, Jones will play golf for Malone College while studying sports management.

CHESTER, W. Va. -- Featherweights Ben Dunne (7-0, 6 KO) and Mario lacey (5-1-3, 4 KO) have been added to the July 3 fight card at Mountaineer Track and Gaming Resort.
The main event will feature Carlos Quintana (13-0, 11-0) against Vinroy Barret (19-1, 10 KO). The undercard includes a bout featuring heavyweight Chris Koval of Youngstown.
Tickets cost $50 for ringside, $25 for reserved and $10 for general admission, and are available through Ticketmaster.

INDIANAPOLIS -- After teaming with his brother to advance to the finals in both the men's 3-meter and 10-meter synchronized preliminaries, Troy Dumais added the men's 3-meter semifinals to his list of accomplishments Wednesday at the U.S. National Diving Championships.
