State investigators seek the cause of New Castle house fire

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal and New Castle firefighters are investigating a suspicious fire at 814 S. Mercer St.
Fire Chief James Donston said no one was home when the fire started at 1:23 a.m. Tuesday and they are still trying to locate resident Thomas McKerhan. Donston said this morning they were still trying to determine how the fire started. It gutted the inside of the home, he said. Investigators believe the fire started somewhere in the home's middle section.
