NATIONAL LEAGUE Pirates hold off Montreal, 6-5

The Expos are hoping to acquire slugger Juan Gonzalez.
MONTREAL (AP) -- The Montreal Expos put their hopes of acquiring Juan Gonzalez aside when it came time to play.
"We've just got to worry about the games and what happens here in the clubhouse," catcher Brian Schneider said after Montreal's 6-5 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Awaiting word on whether Gonzalez, the Texas slugger and two-time AL MVP, would accept his trade to Montreal, the Expos fell short of a sweep to finish a 3-3 homestand.
"All that other news -- listen to it on the radio and TV and read about it in the newspapers, and that's about all we can take from that," Schneider said.
Expos general manager Omar Minaya flew to Texas on Wednesday and met with Gonzalez, who he helped develop in the Rangers' minor league organization.
No decision yet
Despite assertions by his attorney that he would likely invoke the no-trade clause in his contract, Gonzalez said he hasn't made that determination.
"I haven't decided," Gonzalez said after taking batting practice before the Rangers' win over Oakland on Wednesday night.
Held out of the lineup for the second straight game, Gonzalez has until Saturday morning to make his decision. He said he wasn't sure when he would decide.
"I know Juan. He's a great guy and we hope he comes here," Expos starter Javier Vazquez said. "He's a bat that we need but we understand his situation, too -- he's at home in Texas."
After Montreal tied it at 3 in the sixth, Expos reliever Joey Eischen (1-1) walked pinch-hitter Adam Hyzdu to begin the ninth and bounced his throw to second on pinch-hitter Abraham Nunez's bunt back to the mound. His throwing error allowed Hyzdu to advance to third.
Pinch-hitter Kenny Lofton then hit a deep drive off T.J. Tucker for a sacrifice fly, scoring Hyzdu.
The Pirates added two more runs in the inning on RBI singles by Jason Kendall and Reboulet.
"We've been playing really well -- we had a chance to sweep and I took that chance away," Eischen said.
Williams gets save
Closer Mike Williams allowed a two-run homer to Ron Calloway with one out in the bottom half, making it 6-5. Schneider doubled and pinch-hitter Wil Cordero walked before Williams got Endy Chavez to ground into a force and Edwards Guzman to pop to first for his 20th save in 23 opportunities.
Jeff Reboulet had four hits -- including his first homer in almost two years -- and two RBIs for Pittsburgh, which ended a three-game losing streak. Reggie Sanders also homered.
