Homeless man faces charges in slaying of Youngstown man

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 29-year-old homeless man was arrested and charged with aggravated murder Thursday evening at the police station in a homicide earlier that day at 411 Steel St.
Raymond Crites had been apprehended in the rear yard at 21 Eleanor Ave., which is near the Steel Street address, about 7:15 p.m.
He was in the Mahoning County Jail this morning pending an arraignment in Youngstown Municipal Court.
Police said Crites shot John Deiley, 33, of Mayfield Avenue.
A witness told police that the two got into an argument about Crites' owing money to Deiley. The witness said he turned his back for a moment to change the radio station and heard a shot. He turned around and saw Deiley on the floor with a gunshot wound and Crites running out of the home.
This is the 10th homicide in the city this year. There have been two other fatal shootings, but the Mahoning County Coroner's Office hasn't ruled on those deaths. There were 17 homicides in the city by this time in 2002.
