SCRAPPERS NOTEBOOK | From Cafaro Field
Reviewing the boxscore: The Scrappers had 15 hits in the series finale against Batavia. Recording two each were Anthony Lunetta, Ryan Mulhern, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Javier Herrera, Ryan Goleski and Ceasar Suarez. Mike Conroy and Herrera each drove home two runs. For Batavia, Esteban De Los Santos fell short of a five-hit game, finishing 4-for-5, while Joe Brunick went 3-for-5. The Scrappers scored six runs in the third inning to take a 6-4 lead, but it didn't hold. There were four lead changes in the game. "We answered when they went ahead and they answered when we went ahead," Herrera said. The Muckdogs had the final answer.
Taking a spill: The Scrappers' six-run third inning ended when Lunetta grounded out to short. Base umpire Alan Porter had to leap over the ground ball. Then, when he called Lunetta out, Porter slipped on wet ground behind the pitcher's mound and fell on his back. While on his back, Porter still motioned the out by clenching his fist and pumping his arm. The crowd cheered.
Pitching match-ups: The Scrappers begin a three-game series tonight at Hudson Valley. Right-hander Scott Roehl (0-0, 2.25 ERA) will get the start against the Renegades. Thursday, Scrappers left-hander Adam Brandenburg (0-0, 4.91) will take the mound in Game 2. Mahoning Valley returns home Saturday night for a three-game series against Pinckney Division leader Auburn, which defeated Jamestown 18-13 Tuesday night.
