B.B. Rooners 6-9, GlenOak Eagles 1-8
In the first game, Sam Mann went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, and pitched a complete-game, allowing six hits. He struck out four. Andy Todor had a two-run double, while Shane Scott tripled and Brian Daugherty doubled.
In the second game, Marty Heben singled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a rally from a 6-0 deficit. Matt Colella had two singles, two RBIs and pitched the final 31/3 innings to earn the win. Brian Chrobak had three hits, including a double, while Gar Heintzelman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jeff Hehr added a double.
B.B. Rooners' record is 27-5.
Colt (15-17)
Struthers Davidson and Becker 14, Niles 3 -- Jim Farris and Anthony Sahli combined to pitch a three-hitter. Dave Allen hit a home run.
Columbiana Sport Scene 15, Boardman Civics 0 -- L. Dickinson allowed only one hit as he pitched six solid innings. Jeff Rupert went 3-for-4 and Joe Rupert went 3-for-5.
Struthers Legal News 5, Boardman Civics 1 -- Tom Deluso tossed a three-hitter to pick up the win. Stephen Stenglein hit two doubles and a single and drove in four runs. Deluso also hit a pair of singles.
Pony
Campbell Red 5, Austintown Greenwood Chevy 4 -- Jonathon Gerst pitched six innings for the win and Rich Tisone and Mykal Krill each added two hits.
Jake Volskol had two hits for Austintown.
Babe Ruth (14-15)
Rondinelli Tuxedo 10, Central Optical 0 -- Joe Iacobucci went 3-for-3, while Matt Dado and Mike Hoelzel had two hits apiece. Matt Katich pitched a one-hit shutout.
Howland 17, Commercial Neon 2 -- Tony Pozega, Ryan Miller and Jake Kakavros each had three hits for Howland. Jeff Musick and Ryan Miller combined on the pitching.
SOFTBALL
Mill Creek Sandwich Factory 9, Boardman Spartan Chevy 8 -- Erica Kotel hit two singles and a double while Ashley Shelley, Mary Alexander, Natalie Palermo, Alex Brinkman and Marissa Saadey all had two hits. For Boardman, Marissa Cercone had two hits.
Valley Sting Purple 14U -- won the Eastlake Classic championship. After losing their first pool game, 4-0 to Finesse (Mich.), Sting won seven straight to take the title. Caitlyn Youngs and Trisha Dreslinski each pitched Sting to three victories. Leading hitters for Sting were Ashley Conger with 13 hits, Allie Patton with 12 hits, and Dreslinski and Youngs each with 10 hits. In the championship game rematch with Finesse, Sting scored in the fourth on consecutive two-out singles by Youngs, Conger and Markie Pozzuto. The score remained 1-0 going into the top of the seventh. With two outs and the bases loaded, Youngs hit a three-run double to the gap in left-center and Sting held on for a 4-0 win. Youngs pitched a one-hitter and went 3-for-3 at the plate. Supporting Youngs was Conger with three hits and Dreslinski with two hits. Sting Purple's record is 49-3 with seven tournament titles.
Tri-T Pony (13-14)
Canfield York Mahoning 11, Poland-Springfield Grill 1 -- Carla Blinsky and Luren Sulick combined to pitch a one-hitter. Sulick also hit a home run and drove in three runs.
Ashley Tadla had the only hit for Poland.
