Details add that extra-special touch

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
You may have noticed that many skirts have ruffles, T-shirts have comical sayings and shoes come with hardware and holes.
Lamps are trimmed with beads. Sunglasses come in tints. We even found a shoe that emits a sweet scent when you walk. It's all about details, details, details.
Why? It's because manufacturers and designers are hustling at breakneck speed to offer something new that you don't already have in your closet, living room or pantry.
Marc Jacobs collaborated with illustrators to put graffiti on his expensive LVMH handbags and waiting lists sprung up in the retail stores.
Handbag mogul Kate Spade added graphic drawings to a limited edition bag this spring.
And for another example, Spade has joined forces with the ice cream brand Haagen-Dazs to make limited-edition totes decked with ice cream colors for summer months. Spade, who is from Kansas City, says the bags are inspired by the Haagen-Dazs T-shirts sold at her hometown ice cream shops in the late '70s.
