ARLINGTON, Texas -- Carl Everett hit a three-run homer and Mario Ramos earned his first major league victory as the Texas Rangers halted an eight-game losing streak. The A's rallied for four runs in the ninth before Ugueth Urbina got his 19th save. Ramos (1-1) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. He outpitched Mark Mulder (10-5).
Red Sox 10, Tigers 1
BOSTON -- Nomar Garciaparra went 5-for-5 and Derek Lowe pitched eight strong innings to lead the Boston Red Sox over the Detroit Tigers. Garciaparra singled five times and scored three runs before he was removed for a pinch-runner in the seventh. The only other time in his career he has had at least five hits in a game was Saturday, when he went 6-for-6 in a 13-inning game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Kevin Millar matched a career high with four hits and five RBIs.
Yankees 10, Devil Rays 9
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Juan Rivera hit a three-run homer and Todd Zeile added an RBI double as the New York Yankees scored four times in the ninth inning to beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Jason Anderson (1-0) pitched a perfect eighth for his first major league victory. Mariano Rivera worked the ninth for his 10th save in 11 opportunities as the Yankees won for just the second time in 28 tries when trailing after eight innings.
White Sox 2, Twins 1
MINNEAPOLIS -- Esteban Loaiza pitched eight impressive innings to move into a tie for the major league lead in wins, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins. Loaiza (11-2) allowed only an unearned run and six hits, striking out six and walking one. He joined Toronto's Roy Halladay and Colorado's Shawn Chacon as the only pitchers in the majors with 11 wins. Damaso Marte got two outs in the ninth, and Billy Koch retired Torii Hunter for his 11th save in 13 chances.
Orioles 6, Blue Jays 4
TORONTO -- Jeff Conine and Tony Batista homered as the Baltimore Orioles ended an eight-game losing streak to Toronto. Carlos Delgado hit his AL-leading 23rd homer in the ninth inning for the Blue Jays. He leads the majors with 81 RBIs -- the most ever by a Toronto player before the All-Star break.
Mariners 6, Angels 4
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Freddy Garcia won his sixth straight start to tie a career best and Seattle got home runs from Mike Cameron and Bret Boone. The AL West-leading Mariners extended their lead over the defending World Series champions to 131/2 games. The third-place Angels lost for the seventh time in nine games and dropped two games under .500. Garcia (9-6) improved his career record against the Angels to 9-2, pitching 62/3 innings and allowing three runs on nine hits -- including a solo homer by Bengie Molina.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cubs 9, Brewers 1
CHICAGO -- Sammy Sosa hit two of the Cubs' six home runs for his first multihomer game of the season and 59th of his career. Kerry Wood, Mark Grudzielanek and Alex Gonzalez hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning. Corey Patterson also homered for the Cubs. It was Sosa's first home run at Wrigley Field since April 17. Quevedo (1-4) lasted just 2/3 of an inning, giving up four runs on five hits and walking one. Wood (7-5), pitched seven innings, scattering eight hits and allowed only one run.
Marlins 8, Mets 4
NEW YORK -- Luis Castillo triggered a four-run sixth inning with a two-run homer and Mike Lowell drove in two more runs to help Florida. Brad Penny (6-5) allowed four runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out six before leaving two batters into the seventh inning.
Braves 5, Phillies 3
ATLANTA -- Javy Lopez homered twice and Andruw Jones also went deep against former teammate Kevin Millwood as Atlanta defeated Philadelphia. Millwood (8-6), traded from Atlanta to Philadelphia during the offseason, lost to his former team for the second time in less than a week. Russ Ortiz (9-4) escaped early trouble to earn the win. John Smoltz came on to get the final out in the eighth, then worked a scoreless ninth for his 28th save in 30 chances.
Giants 2, Dodgers 1
SAN FRANCISCO -- Marquis Grissom's two-run homer was set up by a key balk call against Los Angeles starter Odalis Perez, who was ejected along with manager Jim Tracy in San Francisco's win. Jason Schmidt had another masterful start for the Giants, throwing a four-hitter to beat the Dodgers for the second time in six days.
Reds 7, Cardinals 4, 14 innings
ST. LOUIS -- Pinch-hitter Kelly Stinnett's two-run single snapped a 14th-inning tie. Tino Martinez homered twice for the Cardinals. Martinez and rookie Bo Hart had four hits for St. Louis, which stranded 18 runners. Albert Pujols was 3-for-6 to raise his average to .387. Barry Larkin hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the ninth and the Reds got homers from Sean Casey and Juan Castro to snap a three-game losing streak.
Rockies 5, Padres 2
SAN DIEGO -- Darren Oliver retired the first 13 batters and Larry Walker homered for the second straight game as Colorado beat San Diego for its fourth win in a row. Oliver (5-5) took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before allowing a bloop single with one out to pitcher Adam Eaton, pinch-hitting for starter Brian Lawrence (4-9).
Diamondbacks 12, Astros 5
PHOENIX -- Alex Cintron homered for the second straight game and Arizona beat Houston to win its season-high seventh in a row. Cintron also singled and doubled, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Matt Kata hit a three-run homer in the eighth and had an RBI single for Arizona, which had a season-best 19 hits.
