Marinate food in the refrigerator, not on the counter.
If you plan to reuse some of the marinade, boil it for a few minutes first to kill bacteria.
Don't put cooked meat on the same plate as raw meat.
Keep meat cold until it's cooked on the grill.
Keep hot foods hot.
Pack ice around cold foods in the cooler.
Don't let food sit out for more than two hours -- no more than one hour if the temperature is more than 90 degrees.
Bring water and disposable wet wipes to the picnic site if running water isn't available.
Put leftovers back into the cooler as soon as possible.
