Auto-industry demand declines, new report says

DETROIT (AP) -- Demand for new cars and trucks remains weak in the United States, and the outlook for next year is highly uncertain, a new report says.
In its report card for the global automotive industry released Tuesday, Standard & amp; Poor's says sluggish demand has diminished U.S. market share for General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group, while Ford Motor Co. has increased its share slightly.
Through May, U.S. volume was off 2.1 percent from the same period last year, S & amp;P said. The credit-ratings agency forecasts full-year industry sales in the low-16 millions compared with last year's 16.8 million units.
