Pink Ribbon Golf Classic July 14 to benefit research, programs



Squaw Creek Country Club will be the setting for the event that honors and remembers cancer patients.
VIENNA -- Mahoning Valley American Cancer Society will sponsor the Pink Ribbon Golf Classic, formerly the Tri-County Ladies Golf Tournament, on July 14 at Squaw Creek Country Club, Route 193.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast. A shotgun start is planned for 9 and the awards luncheon will begin after 2 p.m.
The tournament is being held in honor of Pat Eddy and in memory of Dolores Gross. Golfers may honor cancer survivors and remember those who have died by buying individual golf ball memorial signs for $5. The name of the person will be on the sign and displayed on the golf course.
Details
The cost is $100 per person or $400 for a foursome. Besides 18 holes of golf, there will be hole challenges, door prizes and a hold-in-one contest.
The major sponsor is United Community Financial Corp., a holding company for the Home Savings and Loan Co. and Butler Wick Corp.
The first-place team from flights one, two and three may advance to the ACS state championship Sept. 13 and 14 at Firestone Country Club, Akron.
Nancy Felton is chairwoman of the event, and Lucy Kelly, a cancer survivor, is co-chairwoman.
Committee members are Sandy Beckwith, Christine Begalla, Sandra Douglas, Pat Eddy, Ginny Johnston, Robyn Kreager, Cheryl Miskell, Donna Mowrey, Pam Planey, Linda Rock, Cathy Santucci, Sherry Sharon, Heidi Smith, Linda Spence and Linda Strange.
Proceeds from the golf outing will go toward cancer research in Ohio and throughout the United States. Funds also will go to educational and community programs for cancer patients and their families in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
