LORDSTOWN -- Chevrolet officially announced today that the new car to be built at the Lordstown

LORDSTOWN -- Chevrolet officially announced today that the new car to be built at the Lordstown Assembly Plant will be called the Cobalt.
Carolyn Normandin, a Chevrolet spokeswoman, said the name was chosen because market studies showed it was powerful and strong and younger people liked it.
Area car dealers were told last month at the car to replace the Chevrolet Cavalier next year would be named the Cobalt, but Chevrolet had withheld comment until today. The name was announced to employees at the plant this morning. Cobalt is an element used in alloys to make cutting tools and jet engines. The car will be shown later this year, though details haven't been finalized, Normandin said.
