Fisherman rescues teen from Mill Creek

YOUNGSTOWN -- An alert fisherman rescued a 13-year-old Youngstown boy from Mill Creek below the Lake Glacier dam after the teen waded too far from shore, park police said.
Robert Brown Jr. of Garfield Avenue was with other kids about 4 p.m. Monday fishing and wading in the water, said Lt. Bruce Emery of the Mill Creek Metro Park Police Department.
"He got out a little further than he wanted to and couldn't get back in to shore," Emery said. "There was a little bit of a current and it is slippery."
Derrick Glass of Logan Gate Road in Liberty, who was fishing near the boys, spotted Brown in the water face-down and pulled him to safety, Emery said.
Brown was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was in stable condition this morning.
Swimming and wading are not permitted in the park, Emery said. The episode is still under investigation, he said.
