COLUMBIANA CORNER Lisbon to mark its 200th year

Plans are still being finalized for the Lisbon Bicentennial, much of which will be celebrated during the July Fourth weekend.
The tentative schedule includes a walking tour of the village, a fishing derby, family picnics, balls, a parade and fireworks.
The village, one of Ohio's oldest, is joining the state and Columbiana County in celebrating its 200th anniversary.
Updating 911 system
Columbiana County Commissioner Gary Williams stepped into a hornets' nest recently when he conducted a meeting of area safety and emergency officials regarding creation of an updated 911 system in the county.
Williams, the county's newest commissioner, urged organizers to try to decide soon on a 911 plan and whether to put on the November ballot a surcharge issue to help pay for it.
Meeting participants quickly informed Williams that 911 has been a contentious issue in the county for more than a decade, with much of the disagreement arising from how to design the system.
The recent meeting also sparked discord and ended with raised voices and some face-to-face debating.
Williams optimistically observed afterward that a solution may be in sight, though. Another meeting is set for July 8.
