CENTRAL MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY, Warrensburg, Mo.
Criminal justice senior Emily E. Bezy of Canfield has received the G.E. "Bill" Davila Award for a criminal justice graduate who demonstrates involvement, initiative and leadership; and the Criminal Justice Outstanding Graduate Student Award for high academic standards, character and leadership.
Bezy also has been named to the university's Who's Who at Central Missouri State University, recognizing academics, leadership, character and campus involvement and service.
She is the daughter of Mark and Karen Bezy of Canfield and a 1999 graduate of Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Mo.
DENISON UNIVERSITY, Granville
Senior biology major Thomas Masters of Boardman has been chosen as a research assistant funded by the Reid and Polly Anderson Scholarship Endowment. His project is "Within-Species Variation of Sceptidium Biternatum Assessed by ISSR Markers." The program recognizes outstanding students in the sciences, partnering them one-on-one with faculty. Masters is a 2000 Boardman High School graduate and son of Jane and Thomas Masters.
CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY
Andrew Lynn, of Boardman, is participating in the seven-week summer music festival at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, N.C. The junior, majoring in performance violin, competed with students from around the world to earn one of 370 spaces at the festival, where he will perform in ensembles and receive instruction from faculty and guest artists from around the country.
A Boardman High School graduate, Lynn is the son of Stephen and Jeanette Lynn.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY
BOARDMAN -- Graduating music major Ian Jones of Boardman was recently selected to receive an Ohio Board of Regents Graduate/Professional Fellowship scholarship, based on academics and graduate-level potential. Jones plans to attend law school at Ohio State University. He will receive $3,500 annually over the next two years for his studies.
For the first time ever, a YSU team competed in the American Institute of Steel Construction's Student Steel Bridge Competition. The 10-student team faced 43 other teams in the contest at San Diego State University this spring. The team placed 36th in a competition that consisted of constructing a 25-foot bridge able to hold 2,500 pounds. To reach the nationals, the team placed in the top two at a regional competition at the University of Kentucky.
Members of the team include: Lance Kraynak of West Middlesex, Pa.; David Worst of Enon Valley, Pa; Brian Flood of Boardman; Thomas Ruminski of New Middletown; Brent Barrett of Templeton, Pa.; Robert Curran of Parker, Pa.; William McIe of Garrettsville, Ohio; Gregory Ullom of Youngstown; Robert Donham of Windham; and Adam DePizzo of Austintown.
