USA Interactive changesname and stock symbol
NEW YORK -- USA Interactive formally becomes a new company today as it changes its name to InterActiveCorp. and trades under a different stock symbol.
The company operates a range of businesses, including Expedia, Hotels.com, Ticketmaster, Home Shopping Network and Match.com dating service.
In a statement last week, chairman and chief executive Barry Diller said the company hopes to be referred to as IAC.
"Although for a while this may all be awkward for those that follow the company, we really are serious about getting on with the building of what we believe can be a great and enduring enterprise under a name that most clearly reflects what we do," Diller said.
New York-based InterActive will continue to trade on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Its ticker symbol will be IACI.
The company started as a television broadcaster, Silver King, in 1995 and has changed its name several times.
