SCRAPPERS NOTEBOOK From Cafaro Field

Roster moves: The Cleveland Indians released pitcher Alberto Garza, who totaled just one inning of work for the Scrappers this season. Jesus Colmenter was added to the Scrappers' active roster. An infielder, Colmenter was with Mahoning Valley during the 2001 season, batting .185 with six RBIs in 17 games. Last season, he split time between Class A full-seasons Columbus (Ga.) and Kinston (N.C.), hitting .223 with eight RBIs. Colmenter was originally obtained in 1998 as a non-drafted free agent.
Anticipated arrival: One of the Indians' first-round draft picks, outfielder Brad Snyder, reported Thursday night to Mahoning Valley and will be activated within the next two weeks. Snyder batted .405 with 14 home runs at Ball State University.
Championship aspirations: The Indians drafted catcher Ryan Garko in the third round earlier this month and assigned him to Mahoning Valley, but he has yet to arrive in Niles. For good reason. Garko plays for Stanford, which begins play tonight in the College World Series. The Cardinal will play Rice in a best-of-3 series.
Making the calls: Al Thorne, 34, of Youngstown returns for his fifth season as the Scrappers' official scorer. Thorne graduated from Chaney High in 1986 and remains a coach in its basketball program. He also is an assistant for the Western Reserve High football team.
In memory: A moment of silence was observed before the game for former Tribe great and Hall of Famer Larry Doby, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 79.
This is June? It didn't exactly seem like June during the Scrappers' home opener. The game-time temperature was 63 degrees. By the time the sun set and the lights came on, the temperature was 55 degrees. Fans donned jackets and sweatshirts.
On the mound: Tonight, Scrappers left-hander Adam Brandenburg, who pitched at Kennesaw State University, will get the start against Auburn left-hander Kurt Isenberg. On Sunday, Scrappers right-hander Chad Durbin (1-0) will face Auburn right-hander Marcos Sandoval. Durbin, the former major leaguer working his way back from elbow surgery, started the season opener Tuesday in Batavia, allowing just one hit in seven innings against the Muckdogs.
