AROUND THE HORN Friday's other games

INTERLEAGUE
Marlins 3, Devil Rays 1
MIAMI -- Miguel Cabrera, playing in his first major league game, hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift Florida. Alex Gonzalez doubled with one out in the 11th. The 20-year-old Cabrera sent the next pitch from Al Levine over the center-field wall for his first big league hit. Cabrera, the most highly touted prospect in the Marlins' organization, was hitting .365 with 10 homers and 59 RBIs in 68 games at Double-A Carolina when he was called up Thursday. He played primarily at third base in the minor leagues, but started in left field Friday. Cabrera was 0-for-4 before homering. He grounded out to end the ninth, stranding two runners and sending a large portion of the announced crowd of 12,515 heading for the exits. Armando Almanza (4-4) pitched a scoreless 11th for the win. Levine (2-5) took the loss.
Braves 6, Orioles 3
ATLANTA -- Robert Fick hit a grand slam and Greg Maddux pitched no-hit ball into the sixth inning, lifting Atlanta. Fick drove in five runs, matching his career high. His second grand slam of the season came in the fourth against Baltimore's Sidney Ponson, who lost for only the second time in his last 10 starts. Maddux (6-6) didn't give up a hit until Brian Roberts doubled into the right-field corner with two outs in the sixth. The right-hander surrendered an unearned run in the seventh and left after the first two hitters reached base in the eighth. Both scored when former Brave B.J. Surhoff singled against Ray King. But Kevin Gryboski, Jung Bong and John Smoltz shut down the Orioles the rest of the way. Smoltz, pitching one day after taking his first loss in more than a year, worked a scoreless ninth for his 27th save in 29 chances. Baltimore's Melvin Mora, the leading hitter in the American League at .361, left the game after being hit on the right hand with a pitch in the first. Mora was already striding when Maddux's pitch drifted inside and struck his hand. After being treated, Mora went to first base and stayed in the game defensively for the bottom half of the inning. The outfielder was replaced by Luis Matos when the Orioles took the field for bottom of the second. Team officials didn't immediately release any details on the injury.
Royals 10, Cardinals 4
ST. LOUIS -- Jose Lima earned his first major league win since last August and the Kansas City Royals got four RBIs from Ken Harvey in a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Royals are 2-6 the last two seasons against the Cardinals, but punished St. Louis ace Matt Morris (7-5) to even the series at 11-11 overall. Raul Ibanez had three hits and drove in three runs for the Royals. Desi Relaford homered on the second pitch of the game, and Harvey and Angel Berroa also connected for Kansas City. Lima (1-0) gave up two runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings in his second start since his contract was purchased from Triple-A Omaha on June 15. He struck out two and walked three. Lima's last big league victory came with the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 19, 2002, against Seattle. He was released last Sept. 11 by Detroit and spent two months with the Newark Bears of the independent Atlantic League this season, going 6-1 with a 2.33 ERA before signing a minor league deal with the Royals on June 11.
Astros 12, Rangers 3
Craig Biggio had four hits and Adam Everett homered as the Houston Astros beat Texas, sending the slumping Rangers to their fifth straight loss. Alex Rodriguez homered for the Rangers, who have dropped 17 of 19 -- their worst stretch since also going 2-17 from Aug. 5-25, 1973. Jose Vizcaino hit a two-run triple and scored on one of two wild pitches by Texas starter John Thomson. The Astros won for just the third time in 10 games, getting 16 hits and blowing it open with a seven-run ninth. Wade Miller (5-7) allowed two runs on six hits in six innings for the victory. He struck out four and walked one. Vizcaino's triple into the right-field corner in the fifth gave the Astros a 3-2 lead. A few pitches later, Vizcaino trotted home when Thomson (4-9) threw a ball in the dirt that got by catcher Einar Diaz. Lance Berkman walked on four pitches to start the sixth and, after going to third when Morgan Ensberg doubled off the left-field wall, scored on another wild pitch. Jeff Bagwell and Ensberg each hit a two-run single in the ninth, Houston's highest-scoring inning this season. Orlando Merced had a two-run double -- his second hit of the inning -- and Biggio an RBI single. Rodriguez, playing a day after being hit in the face by a throw in Oakland, hit his 18th homer in the eighth, a solo shot that made it 5-3. He also had an RBI double in the first. Thomson gave up five runs on seven hits in seven innings. In six starts since throwing a three-hitter against the New York Yankees on May 18, he is 1-5 with a 7.27 ERA. Everett led off the third with his third homer, tying it at 1. Hank Blalock and Rodriguez had consecutive doubles in the first for a 1-0 lead. Texas went ahead 2-1 in the fourth when Rafael Palmeiro had a leadoff walk and scored on Mark Teixeira's single. Houston has the Silver Boot, a crystal and silver trophy that goes to the series winner, after winning four of six games between the state rivals last year. The teams play two more times at The Ballpark in Arlington this weekend, then play a three-game set in Houston next weekend.
Blue Jays 8, Expos 4
MONTREAL -- Vernon Wells, Frank Catalanotto, Orlando Hudson and Greg Myers homered as the Toronto Blue Jays extended their winning streak to four with a victory over the Montreal Expos. Cory Lidle (10-4) allowed three hits in seven innings, joining teammate Roy Halladay to give the Blue Jays the majors' first pair of 10-game winners. Endy Chavez hit an inside-the-park home run for Montreal, which played its first game at Olympic Stadium since May 25 before a crowd of 11,355. The Expos, who ended a six-game losing streak one day earlier with a win in Pittsburgh, lost for the seventh time in eight games. They returned following a 22-game, 25-day trip that included a six-game "homestand" in Puerto Rico and saw them travel a total of 11,310 miles. Wells, Catalanotto and Hudson homered off Javier Vazquez (6-5).
Brewers 3, Twins 2, 10 innings
MILWAUKEE -- Royce Clayton scored on a wild pitch by reliever Juan Rincon with one out in the 10th inning, lifting Milwaukee. Clayton led off the 10th with a double to right-center off Rincon (1-3) and advanced to third on pinch-hitter Brooks Kieschnick's fly to deep center. Rincon then bounced his second pitch to Eric Young past catcher A.J. Pierzynski, allowing Clayton to score easily. Reliever Curtis Leskanic (4-0) pitched out of a jam in the top of the 10th. He walked Luis Rivas with one out. Pinch-hitter Denny Hocking followed with a single to right, sending Rivas to third. Jacque Jones struck out before Cristian Guzman hit a one-hopper to first baseman Richie Sexson, who trapped the ball and flipped to Leskanic covering at first. The Twins scored unearned runs in the fourth and seventh innings. They tied the score at 2 when Torii Hunter reached on second baseman Young's fielding error and advanced on a single by Doug Mientkiewicz. Hunter scored on Dustan Mohr's sacrifice fly. Minnesota starter Brad Radke allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings with five strike outs and one walk. He 0-3 in his last six starts, and has not won since May 16 against the Chicago White Sox. Ben Sheets allowed two unearned runs on three hits in eighth innings. It was the first time in 17 starts this season he went without giving up an earned run.
Tigers 7, Rockies 5
DENVER -- Eric Munson, Bobby Higginson and Kevin Witt homered as the Detroit Tigers beat the Colorado Rockies, snapping a four-game losing streak. Alex Sanchez had three hits for the Tigers. Munson and Witt were among four Detroit players with two hits. Mike Maroth (2-11) won for the first time in four starts. He went six innings, allowing nine hits and three runs -- two earned. Scott Elarton (3-3) gave up nine hits and six runs in five-plus innings.
