Lisbon native opens storewith arch-support focus
BOARDMAN -- Good Feet -- Your Arch Support Store, a retail shop specializing in arch supports, opened Friday at 7110 Market St., one block north of the Southern Park Mall. The store offers more than 115 styles and sizes of arch supports, as well as comfort footwear. John Beck owns the franchise store. A Lisbon native and graduate of Youngstown State University, Beck moved back to the area after spending the last five years as a store manager for J.C. Penney in Massachusetts.
Mahoning Valley jobless
YOUNGSTOWN -- Unemployment last month in the Mahoning Valley remained higher than a year ago. Figures released Friday by the state show these rates: Mahoning County, 7.1 percent, compared with 6.7 percent in May 2002; Trumbull County, 6.5 percent, compared with 6.1 percent in May 2002; and Columbiana County, 7.7 percent, compared with 6.7 percent in May 2002. The state's jobless rate was 6.1 percent in May.

DVD rentals surpass tapes
NEW YORK -- DVD rentals exceeded videocassette rentals for the first time ever last week, the Video Software Dealers Association reported. For the week ending Sunday, 28.2 million DVDs were rented and 27.3 million VHS cassettes were rented.
GM pension funding plan
DETROIT -- General Motors Corp. will offer about $10 billion in debt and other securities as part of an effort to improve its financial flexibility and help fund its U.S. pension plans. GM said its U.S. pension plans were $19.3 billion underfunded at the end of 2002.
