NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Big fourth inning leads Scrappers to 7-5 victory



Mahoning Valley makes its season debut at Cafaro Field tonight.
BATAVIA, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers collected 12 hits, seven of which were doubles, in a 7-5 win over the Batavia Muckdogs on Thursday at Dwyer Stadium.
In the fourth inning of a scoreless game, the Scrappers (3-0) rapped four consecutive doubles, five in the frame, to take a 4-0 lead.
Scott Threinen, Eric Johnson, Anthony Luneta and Ryan Mulhern scored in the inning.
Batavia (0-3) cut the lead to 4-3 in the last of the fourth off Scrapper starter T.J. Burton.
Omar Bramasco homered to center in the last of the fifth inning to knot the game, 4-all.
Ryan Goleski scored in the sixth to give Mahoning Valley a 5-4 advantage, but Batavia responded to tie it again at 5 in its half of the sixth.
Mulhern, who went 3-for-4, reached on a ground-rule double in the seventh and Kevin Kouzmanoff singled him home.
Luneta scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch.
Mulhern doubled twice, while Threinen, Johnson, Luneta, Kouzmanoff and Goleski each had a two-base hit.
Ryan Prahm (1-0) threw three innings of relief to get the win, while Reid Casey pitched the ninth for his second save.
The Scrappers will meet defending Pinckney Division champion Auburn tonight at Cafaro Field in the home opener at 7:05 p.m.
