KEYSTONE CLIPS Fort LeBoeuf Museum offers expanded hours
It was 250 years ago that George Washington visited the French Fort sur la Riviere aux Boeufs at what is today Waterford, Pa., and the Fort LeBoeuf Museum in Waterford is offering expanded visiting hours this summer to mark the anniversary.
The museum will be open noon to 4 p.m. every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through August (except for July 4 and Aug. 3) and will have additional hours during the annual Waterford Heritage Days celebration July 18-20. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 18 and 19.
The Fort LeBoeuf Museum is the only museum in northwest Pennsylvania devoted exclusively to the French and English competition for the beaver pelt trade here in the 18th century and its effect on American Indians in the region.
Washington visited the French fort here on the eve of the French and Indian War.
Admission to the museum is free.
Waterford is on U.S. Route 19 in Erie County about 10 mile south of the city of Erie.
We all scream. ...
