AMERICAN LEAGUE
Angels 2, Mariners 0
SEATTLE -- Ramon Ortiz worked into the eighth inning for his fourth straight win, outpitching Jamie Moyer as the Anaheim Angels beat the Seattle Mariners. Eric Owens hit a solo home run and Shawn Wooten scored on a sacrifice fly by Benji Gil as the Angels averted a four-game sweep
Athletics 9, Rangers 2
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Miguel Tejada homered and set a career high with five hits, and Eric Byrnes added a three-run homer as Oakland completed a three-game sweep of Texas. Rangers star Alex Rodriguez left with a bloody nose in the seventh inning after being hit by a throw when Mark Ellis stole second.

CHICAGO -- Johnny Damon lined an RBI single in the 10th as Boston, held to one hit through nine innings, beat Chicago. Bill Mueller opened the 10th with a single off closer Billy Koch (2-3) -- Boston's first hit and second baserunner since the first inning. Koch then walked Damian Jackson, and Jason Varitek's sacrifice bunt advanced the runners with one out to set up Damon's go-ahead single.
Twins 16, Royals 2
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Corey Koskie homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs as Minnesota rapped 23 hits and routed Kansas City to avoid a four-game sweep. NATIONAL LEAGUE
Giants 2, Dodgers 0
LOS ANGELES -- Jason Schmidt pitched a three-hitter for his major league-leading third shutout, and Benito Santiago and Andres Galarraga homered as San Francisco snapped the Dodgers' eight-game winning streak. The Giants moved back into sole possession of first place in the NL West -- one game ahead of Los Angeles. Schmidt (6-3) walked two and struck out 11.
Rockies 10, Padres 5
DENVER -- Chris Stynes hit his first career grand slam and Brent Butler and Jay Payton added solo homers to help Darren Oliver remain undefeated at home for Colorado. He struck out a season-high six and walked two.
Diamondbacks 4, Astros 2
HOUSTON -- Luis Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and Miguel Batista pitched into the ninth inning, leading Arizona past Houston. Batista (5-3) gave up seven hits, struck out seven and walked one, lowering his ERA to 2.60 -- second in the NL behind Los Angeles Dodgers ace Kevin Brown (1.97). He was lifted after allowing Morgan Ensberg's leadoff double in the ninth. Jose Valverde got three straight outs for his fifth save in five chances.
Reds 3, Cubs 1
CINCINNATI -- Paul Wilson held Sammy Sosa to a harmless single in seven strong innings, then was bloodied and ejected during Cincinnati's second brawl in a week as the Reds beat the Chicago Cubs. Wilson and Kyle Farnsworth went after each other in the bottom of the seventh, after the hard-throwing Cubs reliever threw him an inside fastball as he tried to bunt. Wilson whirled and yelled at the mound, and the two pitchers charged each other. Scott Williamson got the final three outs for his 17th save in 18 chances. The Cubs loaded with the bases with one out before pinch-hitters Lenny Harris and Troy O'Leary struck out.
Phillies 3, Braves 2
PHILADELPHIA -- Held hitless into the eighth inning by Mike Hampton, the Philadelphia Phillies rallied late and Jimmy Rollins' RBI single with one out in the ninth inning beat John Smoltz and the Atlanta Braves. Marlon Byrd looped a single to right field to end Hampton's no-hit bid after 7 1-3 innings. Placido Polanco's two-run single off Smoltz tied it. Smoltz (0-1) blew just his second save in 28 opportunities.
Cardinals 8, Brewers 4
MILWAUKEE -- Albert Pujols hit his 20th homer and Bo Hart doubled and tripled in his major league debut as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers. Jason Isringhausen got the final out for his first save of the season. The Cardinals' closer was activated June 10 after missing 61 games as he continued his rehabilitation from shoulder surgery.
