BATAVIA, N.Y. Scrappers seek series sweep of Muckdogs

Home runs fueled Mahoning Valley's rally Wednesday.
BATAVIA, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers did all of their scoring in the eighth inning Wednesday and handed the Batavia Muckdogs a 5-3 setback at Dwyer Stadium.
The Muckdogs (0-2) scored a run in the second inning and two more in the third.
Batavia still led 3-0 after seven innings.
In the top of the eighth after one out, Eric Johnson hit his first home run of the year over the wall in left to cut the gap to 3-1.
Anthony Luneta reached on a fielding error and went to second when Ryan Mulhern was hit by a pitch.
Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a three-run homer to left -- his first homer of the year -- to give the Scrappers (2-0) a 4-3 lead.
After a fly out, Ryan Goleski doubled to left and Mike Conroy singled him home to make it 5-3.
Mike Hernandez (1-0) pitched three innings of scoreless baseball to get the decision.
Johnson and Kouzmanoff each had two hits.
