AROUND THE HORN Wednesday's other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Yankees 1, Devil Rays 0
NEW YORK -- Five days after winning his 300th game, Roger Clemens almost made even more baseball history. The Rocket took a no-hit bid through 7 1/3 innings -- coming tantalizingly close to the only thing missing from his Hall of Fame pitching resume -- but was long gone by the time the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Alfonso Soriano's 12th-inning single. Marlon Anderson lined an opposite-field single to left on a 3-2 pitch for the only hit off Clemens, who was lifted after eight innings and 116 pitches.
Blue Jays 6, Orioles 2
BALTIMORE -- Roy Halladay allowed two runs over seven innings to win his 10th straight start as Toronto beat Baltimore. Halladay (10-2) gave up six hits, struck out five and walked none. The right-hander is the first Toronto pitcher to win 10 starts in a row, and the first Blue Jay to win 10 straight decisions since Roger Clemens had a 15-game run in 1998.
Athletics 4, Rangers 3, 11 innings
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Scott Hatteberg singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning and also sacrificed in the tying run as the Oakland Athletics beat the Texas Rangers. Hatteberg hit a soft single to shallow center against Robert Dickey (3-3) with two outs in the 11th as the A's won their fifth straight game, their longest streak since a season-best six consecutive victories from April 24-30.
Mariners 2, Angels 0
SEATTLE -- Freddy Garcia threw eight scoreless innings to win his fifth straight start and Mike Cameron had an RBI double for Seattle. The Mariners, who have won eight of their last 11 games, posted their ninth shutout, best in the majors. Garcia (8-6) has rebounded from a rocky stretch where he lost three straight starts. He saw his ERA climb to 5.90 after a loss to Kansas City on May 21. Since then, he's gone 5-0 with a 1.88 ERA.
Royals 8, Twins 6
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Carlos Beltran had three hits and two RBIs and Michael Tucker also drove in two runs, leading the Kansas City Royals. The resurgent Royals, who have won eight of 11 after a 4-15 stretch, moved to within one game of the first-place Twins in the AL Central. Minnesota has lost five in a row, including the first three games of this four-game series with Kansas City.
White Sox 3, Red Sox 1
CHICAGO -- Esteban Loaiza won his 10th game and Brian Daubach hit an RBI double against his former team as the Chicago White Sox beat the Boston Red Sox. Loaiza (10-2) gave up six hits and one run in eight innings, while striking out six and walking one. Loaiza has already topped his win total of nine from last season.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Mets 10, Marlins 5
MIAMI -- Jose Reyes had a bases-loaded triple, a double and four RBIs, and Al Leiter won for the fourth time in five starts for New York. The Mets had 13 hits, six of them for extra bases, and batted around in the second and fifth innings. Leiter (8-3) gave up five runs on six hits in five innings. Brad Penny (5-5) gave up eight runs on 10 hits. He is 0-7 lifetime against the Mets.
Braves 6, Phillies 1
PHILADELPHIA -- Russ Ortiz pitched six shutout innings and Robert Fick had three RBIs, leading Atlanta past Kevin Millwood and Philadelphia. Gary Sheffield added a two-run homer for the Braves, who improved the NL's best record to 46-23. Facing his former team for the first time, Millwood (8-5) allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings.
Diamondbacks 2, Astros 1
HOUSTON -- Luis Gonzalez hit a solo homer and Quinton McCracken added an RBI single in the top of the ninth to rally Arizona past Houston. Billy Wagner (1-3) came in to protect a 1-0 Houston lead in the ninth, but Gonzalez led off with his 14th homer of the season to tie it. Robby Hammock followed with a broken-bat double. Two outs later, McCracken lined a single to right.
Cardinals 9, Brewers 1
MILWAUKEE -- Glendon Rusch's nightmarish season got even worse Wednesday night when he surrendered eight runs in one-plus inning of Milwaukee's loss to St. Louis. Rusch (1-11) gave up six hits and five walks and managed to get just three outs in 61 pitches. The bad blood and beanballs continued after Tino Martinez got plunked Tuesday night.
Rockies 5, Padres 3
DENVER -- Shawn Chacon became the majors' fifth 10-game winner as Colorado beat San Diego. The Rockies had to rally late in a pair of losses to open the four-game series against the Padres, but got all they needed this time against Kevin Jarvis (0-1) in a four-run fifth inning. Chacon (10-3) tied Kevin Ritz's 1996 team record for most wins before the All-Star break.
Dodgers 8, Giants 2
LOS ANGELES -- Paul Lo Duca hit a two-run double to extend his hitting streak to 25 games for Los Angeles. The win was the eighth straight for the Dodgers, who moved into a tie for first place with San Francisco in the NL West. Kazuhisa Ishii (7-2) struggled with his control, walking six to equal a career high, but he allowed an unearned run in six innings.
