BAZETTA -- Maybe all the rain we're having now will mean it will be dry for the Trumbull County Fair.
Fair organizers are hoping good weather will mean large crowds at this year's fair.
The 157th fair begins July 8 and concludes July 13.
This year's fair features a new event, school bus racing, in the Grandstand on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The opening ceremony follows the races.
Other events include harness horse racing, AMA Motocross racing, tractor pulls and the demolition derby.
"We try to stay as traditional as possible and keep what we think the people will like," said Thomas Sawyer, of the fairs board of directors.
Instead of music
One thing missing from the fair is a headlining music act. Featured entertainers last year were Emerson Drive and The Earthquakers.
Instead, Friday night's big event this year will be the Bull-A-Rama at 7 p.m. in the Grandstand.
There will also be two Demolition Derbies, one at 7 p.m. July 9 and the other at 6 p.m. July 13. A fireworks display will follow Sunday's Demolition Derby at approximately 10 p.m.
"We are going to have a good fair this year, if the weather cooperates," said Richard Roscoe, president of the Fair Board.
The Trumbull County Junior Fair Board has been preparing for the fair as well. Their chosen theme is America Stands Proud, America Stands Free. In addition to their regular fair duties, the Junior Fair Board members will serve as parade marshals in the parade of colors and opening ceremonies.
"The fair kids are working really hard getting everything together," said Fair Board Director Darlene Brooks.
Grammy-nominated Del Sinchak performs at 7 p.m. July 12 and Guys Without Ties will perform at 7 p.m. July 13
Another event is the July 10 spelling bee sponsored by the Historical Village Association. The Association will take entries until noon July 10. The spelling bee starts at 1 p.m.
Admission for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is $6. Admission Friday, Saturday and Sunday is $7. Tickets for senior citizens are $3 per day.
Senior membership tickets are $18 (memberships available to Trumbull County residents 18 years and older with valid photo I.D.). A week-long pass is $15. An exhibitors ticket costs $10.
Ride admission for those entering on passes costs $4.
Camping permits, which are assigned spaces on a first-come, first-served basis, are $75. Golf cart permits are $10.
