Buick Classic
Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.
Course: Westchester Country Club, West Course, Harrison, N.Y. (6,722 yards, par 71).
Purse: $5 million. Winner's share: $900,000.
Television: USA (Thursday-Friday, 4-6 p.m.) and ABC (Saturday-Sunday, 3-6 p.m.).
Last year: Chris Smith won his first PGA Tour title, holding off David Gossett, Loren Roberts and Pat Perez by two strokes.
Last week: Jim Furyk won the U.S. Open for his first major title, beating Australia's Stephen Leaney by three strokes at Olympia Fields. Furyk had an 8-under 272 total to match Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Janzen for the lowest 72-hole score in tournament history. Woods tied for 20th, 11 strokes back.
Notes: Woods is making his fourth appearance in the tournament. He missed the cut as an 18-year-old amateur in 1994, tied for 43rd in 1997 and tied for 16th in 2001 -- 12 strokes behind winner Sergio Garcia. The Buick endorser holds titles in Buick's other two PGA Tour events, winning the Buick Open in Michigan in August and taking the Buick Invitational in February in San Diego in his first start after knee surgery. ... Two-time winners Ernie Els (1996-97) and Vijay Singh (1993, '95) also are in the field along with Furyk, Garcia, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, David Toms, Rich Beem and Retief Goosen. ... The St. Jude Classic is next week in Memphis, Tenn., followed by the Western Open in Lemont, Ill.
LPGA TOUR
Rochester LPGA
Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.
Course: Locust Hill Country Club, Pittsford, N.Y. (6,200 yards, par 72).
Purse: $1.2 million. Winner's share: $180,000.
Television: ESPN2 (Friday, 3-5 p.m.; Sunday, 2-4 p.m.) and ESPN (Saturday, 3-5 p.m.).
Last year: Australia's Karrie Webb won the event for the second time in three years, edging South Korea's Mi Hyun Kim by a stroke.
Last week: Australia's Rachel Teske won the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic, ending Annika Sorenstam's winning streak at two. Teske made a 35-foot birdie putt on the final hole of regulation and won with an 18-footer on the third hole of a playoff with Sorenstam, Lorie Kane and Jennifer Rosales.
Notes: Sorenstam is taking the week off after playing four straight weeks. ... The ShopRite LPGA Classic is next week in Galloway Township, N.J., followed by the U.S. Women's Open at Pumpkin Ridge in North Plains, Ore.
SENIOR PGA TOUR
Farmers Charity Classic
Schedule: Friday-Sunday.
Course: Egypt Valley Country Club, Ada, Mich. (6,909 yards, par 72).
Purse: $1.5 million. Winner's share: $225,000.
Television: The Golf Channel (Friday, 8-10:30 p.m.; Saturday, 4:30-6 a.m.) and CNBC (Saturday-Sunday, 6-8 p.m.).
Last year: Jay Sigel beat Monday qualifier Morris Hatalsky by two strokes for the seventh of his eight senior titles.
Last event: John Jacobs won the Senior PGA Championship on June 8 at Aronimink to become the oldest senior major winner (58) since the Champions Tour started in 1980.
Notes: The U.S. Senior Open is next week at Inverness in Toledo, Ohio. ... Craig Stadler is making his second Champions Tour start. He tied for 15th two weeks ago in the Senior PGA.
PGA EUROPEAN TOUR
Diageo Championship
Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.
Course: Gleneagles Hotel, PGA Centenary Course, Gleneagles, Scotland (7,060 yards, par 72).
Purse: $1.98 million. Winner's share: $333,775.
Television: The Golf Channel (Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 9 a.m.-noon).
Last year: Australia's Adam Scott won by 10 strokes, closing with a 63 for a tournament-record 26-under 262 total.
Last week: Australia's Brett Rumford won the Saint Omer Open by five strokes for his first European title.
Notes: Gleneagles will be the site of the 2014 Ryder Cup. ... Scott tops the field along with Scottish stars Colin Montgomerie, Paul Lawrie and Sam Torrance. ... Zane Scotland is making his pro debut. The 20-year-old Englishman won the 2002 Portuguese and Spanish amateurs. ... The French Open is next week, followed by the European Open at the K Club in Ireland.
NATIONWIDE TOUR
Lake Erie Charity Classic
Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.
Course: Peek'n Peak Resort & amp; Conference Center, Upper Course, Findley Lake, N.Y. (6,883 yards, par 71).
Purse: $450,000. Winner's share: $81,000.
Television: The Golf Channel (Thursday-Sunday, 1:30-4 p.m., 11:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m.).
Last year: Patrick Moore won the second of three 2003 titles, edging Hunter Haas by a stroke in the inaugural event.
Last week: PGA Tour winner Blaine McCallister won the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic, beating Bill Glasson by three strokes.
Notes: Joe Ogilvie, the tour's leading money-winner with $179,695, missed the cut last week in the U.S. Open with rounds of 70 and 74. ... The Knoxville Open is next week, followed by the Canadian PGA Championship.
